Location: Parterre
In the parterre facing the cafeteria conceived by Maximilian of Habsburg as a point of refreshment for the Park of Miramare, a statue, made by the Stabilimento Tecnico Triestino, depicting Apollo with adolescent features, is positioned to the side.
. The young god is depicted at rest, leaning on a log from which hangs a quiver, the symbol of archers, of whom he is the protector. This is a copy of the Medici Apollo at the Uffizi, better known as “Apollino” or “Little Apollo,” of Praxitelian inspiration, at the sight of which Maximilian of Habsburg was enchanted, during his visit to Florence in the summer of 1851. This is how the archduke described the work in his travel journal: With limbs still almost feminine […] a god only by the way he holds the noble head, by his graceful and dignified figure.”
The Miramare Apollino stands on a column of a certain height, which reveals the original presence in the parterre of tall plants, which were not meant to obscure the sculptural decoration desired by Maximilian.
