The exhibition MASSIMILIANO e MANET. Un incontro multimediale, [Maximilian and Manet. A multi-media encounter] curated by Andreina Contessa, Rossella Fabiani and Silvia Pinna, has been extremely successful with the public and was extended until Sunday 6 January 2019.
Promoted by the Historical Museum and Park of the Miramare Castle and produced by Civita Tre Venezie and Villaggio Globale International, the itinerary presents an impossible encounter of the Emperor of Mexico, Maximilian of Hapsburg, who was shot in 1867, with the great French painter Édouard Manet who painted four versions of L’Exécution de Maximilien. Thanks to an immersive dimension made up of sound, projections, staging of environments and various accounts, the exhibition portrays all the stages of this story, from Miramare to Mexico and Paris. Visitors will listen to the words written by screenwriter Alessandro Sisti and recited by Lorenzo Acquaviva, who plays Maximilian and presents in a first-person narrative his concerns, his love for Charlotte and Trieste as well as his commitment to the Mexican cause.
The exhibition itinerary ends with the videos by two young artists, Calixto Ramírez and Enrique Méndez de Hoyos, who discuss this series of events which was so crucial in the history of their own country, thus adding a Mexican point of view to our European perspective, combining past and present, history and art.
