THE GREENHOUSES

Located near the Castelletto, the Greenhouses were intended for experimental botanical activities and used by court gardeners to plant trees and plants.
The Old Greenhouses are currently under restoration, while the New Greenhouses host the orangery and the museum’s new Education Room.

THE GREENHOUSES

The Greenhouses of the Park of Miramare are located near the Castelletto and Piazzale Massimiliano.
They were originally intended to accommodate experimental botanical activities and used by the court gardeners—including the head gardeners Joseph Laube and Anton Jelinek—to plant trees and plants.
The New Greenhouses, near the Grignano gate and Piazzale Massimiliano, have been recently redeveloped and renovated and are now home to some ancient varieties of bitter citrus. This was the incipit of a project that aimed to realize Maximilian of Habsburg’s dream of having an Orangerie in Miramare. The elongated building along the southern arm of the New Greenhouses will soon host the new Education Room of the Museo Storico.
The Old Greenhouses were built between 1857 and 1860 by Anton Hauser’s construction company, while the structure was built by Stabilimento Tecnico Triestino. Placed on the long side of the yard in front of the Castelletto, currently undergoing restoration.
